Question - Hi there, I found your site while trying to read up on the Disney Dark Side 10K. My wife and I are running it in April. Its our first real race. I run a 9-10 minute mile but I have anxiety on being swept. My real question is will there be chances to take pics with the Star Wars characters at the end of the race? I'd rather do that than try and stop for pics and be worried about my time/being swept. Any other information is appreciated. Love the site! Thanks for any help you can give me.
Answer - runDisney Star Wars Dark Side 10k has a 16min per mile minimum pace requirement as you probably already know. With your pace, and using last years character locations as a reference to this years, you should have no problem of getting a few pics with characters on the course, even if you start in the last corral. My suggestion would be to just be mindful of surroundings, when I was swept 3 years ago I was untrained and was sick, I saw a few dopeys get picked up with me at mile 8 because they didn't watch out for timing or balloon ladies.
Last year, most of the amazing characters - Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Boba, Jango, Captain Phasma and Jabba were located past the finish line. Few on course characters like R2, Chewy, and Ezra/Sabine were strategically positioned throughout the course. I felt my main goal was to get to the main characters as fast as possible. I started in a mid corral and got to the finish with tons of time for pictures, granted I had to pick and choose, you're probably not going to get everyone at on race, worth a try tho.
Question- Hello! My sister and I have ran over 6 races at the Disneyland Resort in California and this April will be our first ever runDisney event at the Disney World Resort. I made reservations at the Boardwalk Resort specifically because it was closest to past course start/finish locations. Now they have changed the starting locations for both the 10K and the half for the Dark Side challenge and I'm anxious about the transportation. Can you give any advice to ease my mind? Thank you!
Answer - Staying at on of the onsite Disney Resorts is probably one of the smartest decisions you can make on a race weekend. I am amazed at how seamlessly and efficient Disney has transportation down. One thing to look out for is leaving your room with enough time to get to the bus stops before the last bus.
What a year...... What a Great year. I want to thank everyone that is enjoying this website, and coming here for hopefully the 'Best' Disney Star Wars - Dark Side - runner information. I almost started a general (Little bits of everything) running page. (BORING)... I decided a year ago to pledge my loyalty to not only Star Wars, but to runDisney as well. This site originally set out to be more of a blog, but it basically evolved ---QUICKLY--- into more of a guide for the first timer, Star Wars fanboy, and the run of the mill joe who had interest in the Dark Side Races. I really enjoy doing this, I have thought about adding dreaded ads to help support the site, BUT I HATE ADs lol. AD Free for as long as I can do it. Thanks to 100,000+ people who have found there way to this site,,,,, You keep coming, and I will keep posting. Cheers and Good luck to all this year.
Tuesday morning I awoke with a similar nervousness, a nervousness that I am accustomed to getting on a runDisney race registration morning. The nerves come from knowing how popular Disney Races are, and I know its always tough to get a place. Clock watched till 11:45am, then switched gears to refreshing my browser. The clock hit 11:59.23am, and official registration opened, I quickly grabbed the Dark Side Challenge and proceed through the simple check out. 12:03pm, I am once again a Challenger of the Dark Side. My wife Jenny, got her 10k registration in record time, and she flat out said, she will smoke me since its her only race for that weekend. I always look forward to that competition.
We are expecting our first child, "the peanut" early December. I decided to place peanut into her very first runDisney diaper dash, now whether or not she is crawling at 5months is up to her, but she will get a taste of competition. Hopefully Rudy is her announcer for this dash, and many races to come.
I wasn't planning on racing in the 5k this year, mainly because I didn't want to wake up three straight mornings again lol. My best friend Matt decided to run his very first race at Disney, and I wanted to be there with him. So I am officially in the 2017 Dark Side 5k as well.
Looking forward to continuing my quest to the Dark Side as registration officially opens for the 2017 Star Wars Dark Side Challenge on August 9th at 12pm EST. Looking to see Rudy and John at the finish lines. This year my wife and I are skipping the 5k, mostly because of the additional morning we would have to find coverage for our future 4month old. Jenny and I will be both doing the 10k Dark Side. I will be signing up for the challenge (10k and Half Marathon).
I cannot contain how excited I am to post, that we are only one week away from the Dark Side 5k and Star Wars Dark Side Race Weekend. I am getting bombarded with new information and rumors, trying to post what I can that is cleared officially.
The excitement is starting to overflow, we are less then one month out from the runDisney Star Wars - Dark Side Half Marathon expo and weekend. I been really pounding the treadmill hard lately and will continue to do so until the Monday before the race, when I taper down. Still no map of the courses, little stressful since we only start and finish of the half, but my guess is that it will be a reverse wine and dine with subtracting some mileage in Disney's Hollywood Studios and adding it in either Epcot or Animal Kingdom. I hope we get the race guide this week, then its so close you can taste the carbonite.
